Spiders of the family Corinnidae belong to the suborder Araneomorphae, a large and diverse group of spiders that includes most known species. Corinnids are known for being active hunting spiders, generally with terrestrial habits, that do not build webs to capture prey but instead chase or ambush them. Corinnids have a global distribution but are more abundant in tropical and subtropical regions. It is likely to be nocturnal or crepuscular. They do not pose a significant danger to humans; their venom is adapted to immobilize small prey and usually causes only mild discomfort in case of a bite. Based on their appearance and structure, they appear to be active hunting spiders. Their long, thin legs suggest they are fast and agile, adapted for pursuing prey on the ground or among vegetation. Small weavers, incredible hunting skills, the diversity of arachnids in the Peninsula is so vast and their study requires good eyes sometimes to find such tiny inhabitants of the Reserve. Agave is a Central American plant that can absorb up to five times more CO2 than most other plants. This is because it has a large leaf surface and stores carbon in its fibres. One hectare of agave has the capacity to capture up to 135 tonnes of CO2 per year under ideal conditions, Up to 40% of land on the planet is arid and semi-arid, mainly in the tropics, but also in the northern temperate and cold zones. On almost half of this land, with a minimum annual rainfall of about 250 mm and slightly refractory soils, the valuable agave species grows reasonably well, certain agave varieties can produce up to 43 tonnes per hectare of biomass in dry weight per year, continuously.

This season the reserve has been blessed with new members of different species, here the Yucatan jays make their tour of recognition of the place that will be their new home, the parents patiently show them the key points where they can find water and food and be safe. While like any other children, they are very demanding and noisy, practicing tactless sounds to the parents when they ask for food, which have to give countless laps to meet the demands of the chicks. These species of birds are normally gregarious, they group the newborns and between several adults take turns to educate and feed them, this family that consists of 4 adults on average and about 12 youngsters come daily to greet with their peculiar symphony out of tune in the mornings and to enjoy the first rays of sunshine. Wetlands are the kidneys of the world and store huge amounts of carbon in their black soil. Lack of oxygen at the bottom of wetlands prevents organic matter from degrading and it accumulates rapidly. Look for black soils in agricultural lands, they were once wetlands and could be restored. Aquatic plants pump oxygen to their roots to grow in these conditions and a diversa microbial community flurishes around the roots. The plants and microbiome break down tóxic chemicals and clean the water.

Cuclillo faisán (Dromococcyx phasianellus). Solitary and sometimes in pairs, in clumps of vegetation at forest edges, in secondary vegetation or in forests. Rarely far from the ground, extremely stealthy and furtive. It is terrestrial and its movements sometimes seem somewhat clumsy or slow; almost always brings the wings hanging and slightly ajar. Its fur is reddish brown. It is found from the south of Mexico, crossing Central America and reaching the north of Argentina, it is a species of diurnal habits, feeding mainly on fruits. It has been recorded that they are able to hear the fruit falling from distant trees and this sound of ripe fruit hitting the ground, They are monogamous and each pair occupies a territory where there must be fruit trees and a water source.

The greater grison (𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙨 𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙖), sometimes called simply or vulgarly as grison or ferret, is a species of mustelid native to southern Mexico, Central and South America. The greater grison is a slender animal with short legs, a long neck, and a short bushy tail. Similar in appearance to the closely related lesser grison, they are primarily nocturnal, with some activity during the morning. They indicate that their resting sites are under tree roots or in hollow trunks and also use burrows in the ground or rock cavities. It is primarily a terrestrial species, but is also an excellent swimmer. They are mostly solitary, but occasionally travel in pairs or small groups.
The loss of habitat near the reserve due to urban growth has caused a change in the habits and lives of all the species that have been affected, more species are at risk, threatened by illegal hunting even within the property, we are losing many species very quickly and we do not seem to realize it. As humans we are doing something wrong, but we can also do things right, let's make a difference.
